Painted Furniture

"I have been planning for a long time to paint a piece of furniture in my home, inspired by the Bloomsbury group and idyllic Charleston House. As inspiration I am continually saving beautiful examples of hand-painted furniture, hoping that one day I am brave enough to take the plunge.

Tess Newall is the queen of whimsically painted pieces, from chairs to wardrobes, and I love the organic shapes of Claire de Quénetain. But maybe as a beginner I will stick to the simple yet effective designs of Casa Gusto's chest of drawers."

"Tableware is the perfect place to start your vintage collection or a great opportunity to support small, independent brands. At the moment I am loving all the linear designs popping up, combining bright colours with sleek graphic designs, this is what I want my spring table to look like!"

"Large green jugs can be used in so many different way, from flower holders to statement pieces. I really like the emerald colour they give off when the light shines on them. I love them so much that through looking for photos for this blog post I ended up buying one myself and can't wait to have it in my apartment (jug to the left)"

"Bamboo is such an amazing and sustainable way to bring natural materials into your home. I particularly love the curves and shapes that bamboo can offer to chairs and the uniqueness of each of the pieces. They are perfect for a spring refresh of the house and bringing the outside in. "

"As we all begin to plan outside hosting again, I’ve been looking for pieces which are going to look beautiful on a summer lunch table. This spring it’s all about fruit and veg for me. Rattan

"I always had a soft spot for rattan but it's become a full on obsession after watching the BBC drama 'The Serpent'.

Buyers have noted the series has led to a general revival in 70s trends and I've fallen for it hook, line and sinker. But I do think rattan is a trend that will always be in fashion - there is something about its natural aesthetic that appeals to the eco-sensibilities of today."

A friend is of Singaporian heritage and made me aware of the ethnic group's beautiful aesthetic heritage. Ever since I've been on the look out for second-hand pieces that fit the theme.
